Something I find fascinating when pointing out the climate issues of generative AI is how some people rush to interject that data centers are already a problem given the data storage required for media and streaming, and people haven't been objecting to that.
It seems they seriously are saying:
- since people haven't been aware and objecting (enough to be heard) *before* now, they shouldn't object now that they are aware…
- since there already is a huge climate issue with data centers we shouldn't care if that issue just keeps worsening…
So bizarre. You can't just accept the worsening of a situation by stating that the problem is already pretty bad. 🤪

@axbom@axbom.me Media storage and streaming is also much more useful for the common people than AI!

@axbom@axbom.me Mistral is building an AI data center here in Sweden on 100% renewable energy. Let's shame the americans and not everyone. https://ecodatacenter.tech/press/mistral-ai-and-ecodatacenter-partner-to-build-ai-focused-data-center-in-sweden-3431886
