I got a second-hand Apple Watch partly so that I could help people at the library learn to use theirs. One notable difference between me and my (mostly older) patrons with our Apple Watches. I charge mine when I wake up because I track steps/sleep. They charge theirs at night because they mostly use it for fall detection and emergency SOS features.

@jessamyn@glammr.us That is fascinating. I'm in the in between, but will have to keep that strategy in mind.

@jessamyn@glammr.us I find that mine charges in the time it takes to have a shower and get dressed in the mornings. Although, I do have a trick - I switch the watch to the other wrist at night, to give my other wrist a break and get some air.

@jessamyn@glammr.us Some of us have two watches and switch at 1) bedtime and 2) just before leaving home the next day. Nighttime watch is the one I first bought a few years ago; daytime watch is the current model bought late last year because battery life on the first was crapping out during a long Strava activity. In any event, fascinating alt use case you mention. I may get there in another ten years.

@jessamyn@glammr.us I wear mine at night for sleep and heart health tracking and charge it when I am sitting and reading etc.

@jessamyn@glammr.us It’s interesting that Apple assumes the latter group—OS updates are auto-installed not when the watch is charged, but only when it’s charged *at night*. Otherwise they have to be manually installed.
