LG wanted to charge me £1200 for the repair of my 40” monitor, which considering I bought it new in 2022 for £1500, not worth it. We tried replacing the boards ourselves, that wasn’t the problem. Put it on Freecycle for spares and repair. The person who comes to collect says “I think it’s the backlight, if I can fix it do you want it back?” It’s a good world!

@issyl0@ruby.social I watch this guy: https://www.youtube.com/@allenfleckney5969/featured He's funny and doesn't always fix things, but it's amazing how simple so many repairs are for TVs. He's not well at the moment, but there are plenty of videos you can watch.

@issyl0@ruby.social my super expensive LG monitor stopped displaying correctly. Changing the boards didn’t work so I tried a peice of tape. And it’s been great two years later. I found the fix on a video similar to this one https://youtu.be/pfrRhw7-ZII

@issyl0@ruby.social found out they usually just switch out a board for a few hundred bucks. sometimes they can fix the board. usually don't bother. let specialists fix boards. disposable parts. tedious work repairing them. dozens of screws and tiny parts. last I looked there were separate boards inside; audio, video. the cheaper models have fewer boards. all-in-one whole system.

@issyl0@ruby.social the cost of the person performing the repair work is always higher than any parts or other things involved. Thanks for sharing this, good to know there are still good-natured people out there.

@issyl0@ruby.social yep, those things are good for about five years and then - zap! I replaced mine on a Philips 40" monitor twice (2015 model). mighta gotten away with replacing them just once, but el stupido put in *used* strips the first time.
