@Setok@attractive.space I haven’t seen arguments against growth, only against sacrificing something important to enable growth - mainly, against sacrificing the “federation of instances” user experience. Having a default instance simplifies onboarding, which enables growth, but hides that there are other instances that could be joined. I’d rather have a good instance-chooser interface, both for onboarding and migrating, which I think would be almost as enabling and without the sacrifice

    @ShadSterling@mastodon.social I don't think it hides it. You can still easily pick another. But let's be honest, new users complained a lot about that, and even I admit to being not entirely clear on why one server might be better than another. Ending up on a smaller instance has dire implications too going forwards, due to the way things have been built, and those are difficult to explain and not obvious even to people who have been here a while.
