@dpreacher@freeradical.zone 2-3 year ago I used to record expenses in large categories -- grocery-{non,}food, gas, electronics, cleaning products, taxi, rent, health, etc -- in a spreadsheet; have another to do total for the month, year, over time. Then I stopped completely as I gained nothing other than knowing monthly expense. Around last year have started recording the expense per payment type per month (credit card(s), cash, check) in a spreadsheet. Another spreadsheet graphs the actual, mean, median. ...

@dpreacher@freeradical.zone ... Check the balances at local bank 1-2x a month; occasionally in online high-yield savings account to make sure I could cover rent & credit card payments from local bank.

@ax6761@freeradical.zone Nice. Instead of getting into individual categories, you focused on finding if the absolute necessary items were covered by high yielding account (like a second account with limited funds?) What did those statistics values like mean and median tell? I suppose you need a few months' data to plot those.
