@seachanger@alaskan.social It's a very weird feeling when your oncologist says to you "We are just waiting for insurance approval" for a treatment. So the insurer dictates standards of care. That is incredibly dangerous imho.

@seachanger@alaskan.social My insurer is also my provider, an arrangement I cannot believe is legal. It's definitely unethical. Not unusual I gather.

@sullybiker@sully.site as I’ve noted before, when I went through cancer treatment I spent far more time on the phone fighting the insurance company than I did talking to my doctors about my treatment. I was wrongly charged for my lumpectomy, mastectomy, and chemo and had to fight hard to get coverage for all three (For the surgeries they tried to pull out of network - tho I had them preapproved - and for the chemo they effed up auto payments and then blamed me for not paying)

@sullybiker@sully.site @seachanger@alaskan.social last year my husband lost his fight with lung cancer. My encounters with the insurance were horrific. I finally told them to start paying and stop trying to console me after a simple CT scan was denied because it was “ too soon after the last one” even though he had a significant change in his symptoms. Had they approved he may be alive today. They don’t care, but it cost them a million or more, that denial.
