If the war budget was turned into funds for actually enriching the lives of citizens for even one year? If billionaires were taxed at a reasonable rate? There would still be racists who were angry that “undeserving people” also benefited but they would be drowned out by everyone else . This is both the thing that keeps me going and the most depressing thing in the world to me. How, in this moment, is this not *so* painfully obvious to an overwhelming majority of people in the US?

But it *is* obvious. That’s why democrats and republicans both wanted to “return to normal” as quickly as possible in response to COVID. It’s why Biden’s admin had no real energy behind holding anyone of consequence to account for Jan 6. It why no front runner was willing to call a genocide a genocide. It’s why Trump hasn’t been impeached and why the DNC has explicitly stated that impeachment “isnt a priority”

@griotspeak@soc.mod-12.com it’s the constant embarrassing elephant in the room of American history. From the very beginning we couldn’t have nice things cuz racists didn’t want the nonwhites to also have those things. Which is basically why the ruling class invented racism in the first place.
