Huh. I guess I don’t pay enough attention to lower cost audio stuff anymore.

Around 15 years ago, I had a conversation with someone who was basically pitching the idea of letting google listen to our conversations so that it could present relevant info on screen in real time. I was physically repelled by the idea on surveillance related grounds. Time has revealed that *I* am the strange one for that reaction.

I mean, I would certainly have a rooftop garden if the opportunity arose so I’m not saying it’s a bad idea or anything. 😂

I request a moratorium on survey results about what features users want until we establish criteria for validity

I have an external monitor plugged in and just noticed that the menu bars do not stay in sync. How long has this madness stood for?

Yeah I am in the “maybe text on the internet is simply a Bad way to form and maintain community” part of the pendulum

As I see and understand it, white america mobilized for Jimmy Kimmel so quickly and vigorously in part because it was clear *how* to mobilize. Denying a corporation of money is the obvious stimulus. The american political system is a corporation. A general strike is the obvious response to this administration giving more life to Jim Crow. It isn’t a resurrection because it never quite died.

Is there a good open source MVVM in swift example someone could point me toward? I’m now dealing with an MVVM + presenter + uhh… coordinator? Not sure about that last one. Point is that there is a whole lot of ceremony that doesn’t quite easily slot in to my conceptualization of MVVM. Doesn’t have to be in SwiftUI (the codebase I’m dealing with is UIKit, actually)

“Why don’t you ask AI?” Because I work with people. People who built the thing using their human minds and I guess I have a preference for getting information from those over asking a computer to generate text that looks reasonably like what they might say in response to my question.

    General strike when?

RE: https://mastodon.social/@mattsheffield/116500991239336079 OK but in what meaningful way is this not a theism?

AI probably doesn’t cause brain damage, y’all. It doesn’t serve the anti-AI argument to confidently claim that it does right now

    <exhausted sigh>Mentats when?

I don’t think AI causes brain damage but I do believe that it damages knowledge and the valuation of knowledge.

I’ll concede that I could deserve to be in hell. Really I don’t want to argue about that but there is no way that I deserve this specific ring of hell. Simply no way. This is egregious, if I’m being honest.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@glynmoody/116318219880381569 Betteridge's law of headlines is in full effect. The answer is No. let’s not shift blame/agency like this, thanks.

With some of the venting out, I think that the right approach is to fix the things about my approach and behavior that I need to fix so that they are cared for while looking for a peaceable exit.

Thing is, I am bummed out by Andy Weir being at the very least cool with bigotry because it really hurts my argument that sci fi builds progressive thought. I am fortunate in that I haven’t invested in his work so it isn’t a loss of a beloved story or anything but I do lose a leg to stand on in the quest to frame creative writing as an intrinsically expansive practice

Someone tooted that focusing on the thing you disagree with when faced with an opinion that you mostly agree with is “literally the opposite of how successful movements are built” and I know that I am failing some kind of cosmic test by trying to split a hair but I swear to something that I cannot help it. I really think that there is like… a window of success. Too much latitude seems like it also has real danger to it in the long term. Too little stifles a bloom but… yeah. Anyway.

Not people picking the nit of *which* LLM was used to bomb the school. Also yes people are ultimately responsible for using the tool but also there is a particular lacking in responsibility involved in providing a tool that does this, no?
