We can protect kids online without hard-coding surveillance into everyone’s device. An opt-in mechanism for parents and people who choose to use this tech is a more proportionate response. The focus should be on educational methods, and specialised policing of sextortion and child abuse offences. #privacy #surveillance #onlinesafety #ageverification #ukpolitics #ukpol

@openrightsgroup@social.openrightsgroup.org and you don't actually protecg kids through surveillance either. You teach them how to make the safest decisions in an difficult world and then you gotta let them make mistakes. That's what parenting is. If you "shelter" your kid from the world instead of teaching them how to deal with it, or even worse farm that out to surveillance technology, you're not really parenting. The world sucks. If you didn't want to teach your kids how to navigate that, why did you have/keep them? You should have just not.

@openrightsgroup@social.openrightsgroup.org We can best protect kids online by insisting that bad actors be kept out, and that online platforms be made more open, transparent, and accountable for *everyone*. It’s not just kids who deserve protection.

  • @openrightsgroup@social.openrightsgroup.org Its simpler than that, just ban social media which can be proven to exploit users. I'm sure a lot of countries have these laws but limited to gambling. Its not just children who are getting hurt here.
