@nicklockwood@mastodon.social Having lived through IE6, it’s so annoying to think that we mostly just swapped Microsoft and Google.

@sdarlington@mas.to @nicklockwood@mastodon.social Not in the context of this article. IE had a ton of quirks for compatibility with websites expecting older versions of IE as well as Netscape. That was one of the reasons it was impossible for competing browsers to just treat IE as the defacto standard. At least Chrome forces web sites to stick as closely to the standards as Chrome does, where with IE you often had completely different code for IE and for browsers that tried to follow the standard.
