Wearing my "Hang on. Let me overthink this" shirt today, and at lunch a man came over and said that he liked it. Now I'm wondering why? What was his motivation? Should I be worried? Threatened?

How many syllables in the word “sacrifice”? #totp

I’d like to publicly apologise to the leaf blower guy. Today I’ve learned that there is a greater menace. There is a man with a saw, tearing up the road outside my house. There is also someone in a high-viz watching him. He seems pretty quiet.

RE: https://mastodon.online/@9to5Mac/116844788890430939 Flame-bait headline (that I'm falling for). Quite apart from the sketchy methodology, the thing I object to most is the framing. Even if true -- big if -- falling *unintended* pregnancies would be a good thing.

It's Canada Day. Be nice to each other, eh?

I always think this is one of the most underappreciated Pet Shop Boys songs. Funny and sad and recognisable. And, compared to all the Steps and Craig Davids, the look is still unique. #totp

“The controversy over vibe coding reached a new high this week after a developer added hidden instructions to his open source Java testing app to sabotage projects performed by AI coding agents.” Destructive edits as a protest is a huge breach of trust. He could have made a similar point by asking the LLM to output only in Esperanto or make every fifth word “duck.” https://arstechnica.com/security/2026/05/fed-up-with-vibe-coders-dev-sneaks-data-nuking-prompt-injection-into-their-code/

Why didn't Starmer sack him earlier this week?

LOL, the first minute of today’s OGWN hasn’t aged well.

What are the odds that Tove Lo would announce a gig in London on the same date that I already have tickets for another gig?

Wow, Gruber is *so* close to understanding the point of GDPR.

What do I need to do to celebrate St Georges Day? Drink more tea? Slay a dragon?

I don’t think I ever really appreciated Kate Bush until I watched Top of the Pops reruns on BBC4. You get all the boring late seventies guitar bands and then… boom… Wuthering Heights. The proverbial ice water in hell. https://music.apple.com/gb/playlist/kate-bush-essentials/pl.4878fcbb51b0490a90e797f124ce6518 #totp

It's a bit off that Blue Origin are claiming a success when they failed to deploy the customer payload. If they're just looking to play with rockets, it's a hobby, not a business. https://www.theverge.com/science/914729/blue-origin-successfully-reused-its-new-glenn-rocket

This weekend, I killed an apple tree. In fact, I'm getting ahead of myself. I *planted* an apple tree and most of my gardening results in a swift death.

A client has a project called MARS. And this is what I think of every time it's mentioned. (Still a good tune.) https://youtu.be/w9gOQgfPW4Y?si=7eOK7iuPC9HEa91n

Possibly late to the game, but this week is the first time I've tried using LLM code gen stuff in anger and I've come away impressed. What I've been doing may be a perfect use case for it -- very well defined -- but it generated hundreds of lines of (seemingly) working code with little input. All while I was doing something else.

Randomly decided to go to Battersea #parkrun this morning. Seemed to be a lot of funnel duckers and half expected to get token number one. (I didn’t.) Beautiful day. Now sat outside the power station, by the river, in the sun, drinking a well deserved coffee and eating a pain au chocolate. Lovely start to the weekend.

"Disappointed that the Neo has sRGB rather than P3 Wide Colour? How about two colours? Only 8Gb of memory. Could you manage with 1Kb? Dual speakers? How about no sound at all? A mechanical trackpad? What if pressing a key made the screen flicker?" https://www.zx81.org.uk/posts/2026-03-13-zx81/
