@Hex@kolektiva.social @nojhan@social.antigene.org @klausfiend@mstdn.ca What worries me is that after fascism is done, everyone is so damaged that a return to the pre-fascism status-quo seems like a happy ending. "The mob" acts on the information it is given and the culture it has, and both are still largely controlled by those in power.

    @forse@kolektiva.social @nojhan@social.antigene.org @klausfiend@mstdn.ca this assumes that it's possible to return to "pre-fascism."

  • @forse@kolektiva.social @Hex@kolektiva.social @nojhan@social.antigene.org @klausfiend@mstdn.ca That's the good cop / bad cop game. Both are fascist, but one is smart enough to lie and claim it isn't. So I am truly, horribly dreading the next round where they'll drag in some grinning neoliberal who'll sweetly promise to fix it all better-- but don't expect too much, all that damage the orange one did is really bad you know, we're trying oh so hard but it's sooooo so so difficult, now now calm down the bad times are over things are getting back to normal right so you have no reason to keep protesting or complaining, and so on.... At least right now we get to talk openly about resistance and how truly fucked up things are. When the Democrats swan back in pretending to save us, it's not like they're going to take the Flock cameras down or kick out Palantir or delete their databases on "ANTIFA". They're taking note of who is putting up an effective fight, and they'll target anyone who won't simmer down, and we'll have neighbors so desperate to get back to brunch they'll help throw us under the bus.
