@DanMorgan@vmst.io @glennf@twit.social Mostly though other books or posters, after which I delved further and took notes: Whenever I found a book with a special feel or right texture/paper weight, I immediately flipped to the colophon where (quite often, as is the case in designer-books) the paper was listed, which got me a list of preferred types.
For the rest it was a lot of finding out and visiting printers when you are producing print work: they always have some great stuff in their showcase libraries.

I used to go to paper stores, study paper company samples (there were so many), and I was fortunate enough to work in a printing plant for two years, as well as going on press at printers. Also obsessive about reading colophons—sometimes I still write authors or designers asked about the paper they used and their feelings about it!
