@AG100pct@infosec.exchange At least based on the reporting, it seems like they were mostly working with natural uranium there? A priori I would think that the biggest hazards would be from the process chemicals and from the heavy metal contamination? I can't find any details, though. Are there any surveys or reports that you've seen on it? I haven't been able to find many descriptions of the process itself or what the wastes were, specifically. I would expect that most of it was nitric acid waste leftover from the initial acid extraction from the ore. It makes sense though - the banality of the process in the broader context of the time it was being performed makes the scenario ripe for being forgotten by the broader narrative. Uranium refining doesn't have the cache that, say, enrichment or especially reprocessing do, but still produces large quantities (larger, even) of toxic chemical waste.
