@tillshadeisgone@blackqueer.life I think a lot of white leftists have not even begun to unpick and extract themselves from their whiteness, and that acts like a massive trigger for them. I'm sure I have likely struggled with that at points in my life as well, but until you can accept that the system is rigged and you are woven into the system you can't even begin to do the work. One thing I've realized over the years is that white culture is fundamentally smother culture. The idea of making anyone uncomfortable is seen as villainy. It's why families will sit every Christmas with racist uncles or known family pedophiles, but the person who brings it up will be seen as a villain for rocking the boat and "ruining a special day". Until we accept the heinousness of that within our own culture we can't possibly refer to ourselves as allies to anyone else.

Hanging out with my white family and getting told we are "not getting to political" and spoiling the mood. And then getting told a story about someone being in the gendarmerie and how someone else would like to arrest someone and I quote "Like a US police officer, by kneeling on them". But this isn't political, me saying something about George Floyd is. It's ridiculous.
