I use trans man/woman now, but when I was learning about trans people that description was helpful for me to get the direction/terminology right. I had a lot of things to learn. In hindsight, yeah, it’s really obvious. But I get confused by obvious things other people just get very easily (like it took me a while to figure out why we don’t start counting stuff at zero).

I think “male to female” can be helpful in telling what they transitioned from to what. Trans woman might confuse someone in that they wouldn’t know if the person transitioned to or from woman.

I used to get very confused as a cis woman thinking “trans” meant “transitioned from”. I now simply ignore the “trans” and just follow with the identity. So trans woman is just woman, because that is all that matters.

To me it's like the wording *"you're a man who became a woman."* It's offensive for many reasons, but I think the biggest reason why it's so offensive is because at the end of the day, you still called me a man. If you were saying that I'm *"a woman who used to be a man"*, it would still be deeply inaccurate, but much less offensive, because, well, at least you're calling me a woman this time around. Either way, no matter how you say it, this obsession with what I used to be according to you is not only offensive, but it is kinda creepy. **I am what I told you that I was.**
