I don’t think the “we’re doing vibecoding” part of Spotify’s earnings call is as weird as the “our engineers are merging features without looking at them because they’re doing this during their commutes.” You’re Spotify. What are you doing that’s so important your engineers can’t wait five minutes to get into the office to check the code. It’s just such a weird brag.

  • I feel like a lot of this is just efficiency theater. “Our users expect so much of us that we must deliver new features from the bus on the way into the office! Look how responsive we are! We are adding things every five minutes! We’re moving so fast we don’t have time to look at the code!” Calm down you’re a music streamer.

  • @colincornaby @hoserama99 This reminds me of when some Adobe manager was up on stage at an Apple event during the very early period of Mac OS X where he said that a single engineer had ported Flash to it in a day "and he isn't even that good!” I feel both of the brags betray a mindset that development work is inherently just a basic chore, a distraction from much more important things. I see it in sales/managerial types plenty.

@colincornaby I mean...If the engineers are coming in at 10am and leaving at 4 because they can "do tasks on their commute", that'd actually be something to brag about.🤪
