RE: https://hachyderm.io/@shanselman/116976708160010587 Had to recover stuff when my dad died a few years ago. I can confirm the pain & sadness in that process. Thankfully, he’d left a set of passwords, and were able to get into all the critical sources. Tl;dr; have an “in case of emergency break glass” digital recovery plan as part of your will.

As an American, I’ve been sleeping (lol pun) on booking.com. Way better than (current day) Airbnb in Europe. Highly recommend. All these hotels running apartments is a nice option. Although I do miss the days of quirky airbnbs owned by normal people making a buck on their place.

Finished this really tricky #crochet project yesterday after slowly working from “not so sure I want to do this” to “totally obsessed/must finish” manic energy the last 2 days. I loved making it and am obsessed with doing more projects like it. https://www.ravelry.com/projects/pinkeerach/blooming-lotus-square

Sailing up Cat Island in the #Bahamas. It’s just lovely, even the upwind stuff🤯 (mainly because we’re in the leeward side of the island) #sailing #sailboats #sailboatlife

Today was #boatProject day! In which I figure out how to patch our canvas enclosure to extend it's life (and our wallet). In addition to replacing some tired Velcro, I made some extensions to snap the canvas onto the cockpit. The old snaps didn't reach after the last clear replacement, and the back panels flop all over the place. Flop no more! My extensions work!

One of those rare days where the wind was in the perfect direction for the entire sail. We started deep downwind with a full Genoa and main, then switched to main + asym spinnaker for broad-beam reaching, & concluded the passage with main+staysail+genoa in close reach. 😍😍😍 #sailing #sailboats #sails

In which i write about turning my boat into my own personal hyperlocal tide station using boat data, a #Victron cerbo, and some cloud tools. Note that this can be done with a variety of tools and tech, including replacing the cerbo with a #raspberrypi the only non-negotiable component is the boat😂 https://www.svloka.com/logging-the-tides-make-the-cerbogx-a-tide-station/ #victron #raspberrypi #marineelectronics #sailboat #boatprojects #sailboats #grafana #influxdb #signalk

i'm definitely not in the camp where i want #AI (aka #llm) in all of my tooling. and yet, here's a super useful placement and implementation: the #Grafana (Labs) Assistant 👏🏻 I have used it on multiple occasions in the last week as I've been building out my Boat Data dashboard (see previous post about turning my boat into a tide station), and it has been better/more efficient than reading through docs when troubleshooting.
