@hoare_spitall@mastodon.world Reminds me of school teachers who beat or tied the hands of people who wrote with their left hands.
In terms of Wales and Scotland, there have been concerted efforts to undermine our nationhood. Scotland used to be known as North Britain for example.

@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot My heart is bound to Scotland, but I'm also a realist and I think it was a huge error, or maybe overweening ambition, for James VI to accept the English throne as James I. The two nations at that time were too culturally dissimilar to have much chance of success. But hindsight is a wonderful thing.

@IndyRichard@mastodon.scot I had a very good school chum, far brighter than me, and the poor lad was irredeemibly left-handed. They put him through the mill forcing him to write 'in the correct way'. To this day I think it was only his strength of character, and innate intelligence that got him through it all.
