@titania@retro.pizza That's maybe the most disingenuous analogy I've heard since a Republican spoke.
Doing "home chemistry" is very popular with certain drugs.
But hosting a server does NOT require chemistry, can't easily poison or blow up and kill you. At the easiest, you can rent a VPS; even cohosting or giving your home computer a fixed IP isn't that hard, you can just click on some web sites and again VERY few of those will harm you.
Quit trying to scare people just because you're scared!

@mdhughes@appdot.net ty for making it clear that you did not read the rest of the thread, wherein I make it clear that I am in fact setting up self-hosting :blobcat_amused:

@mdhughes@appdot.net @titania@retro.pizza “at the easiest you can [do something I’ve never heard of]; even [things that I have no foundational knowledge of] isn’t that hard” is the exact issue here, even if the risk of harm is lower. I know there’s guides but I’m starting at 0, and frankly I don’t want my scarce time and energy to go towards learning it. Especially when I see a post full of terminology I’ve never encountered coupled with “it’s so easy.” It’s not, to me and many others!
