@lkanies@hachyderm.io in Switzerland, 100000s of immigrants from the Balkan countries have their name misspelled (and thus mispronounced) because the letter ć was not allowed in the official registry.

@jeremystucki@vis.social with that kind of thing I always wonder how much of it is intentional, a kind of systemic statement of unwelcome. I know the US has a general “changing your name is a key part of assimilation” culture.
