@babetteknauer@mastodon.social @Bibliothecaris@social.edu.nl As a university student, though admittedly one already on the Fediverse - I deeply resent that my University is forcing ME to use Google, Microsoft, YOUTUBE (ffs) and LinkedIn, rather than communicating professionally and properly under their own banner and investing in the expertise and ownership of their own tools and materials. Thinking that Instagram is required because "that's where students are" is backwards. Institutions should be leading, not following.

@babetteknauer@mastodon.social @Bibliothecaris@social.edu.nl The one exception I could indulge is external marketing, trying to recruit potential students, and convert to students. But once someone is a student of a given institution, they should be using a web browser to access the institution's services via the institution's web site at a sovereign domain. Allowing them to *expect* the institution, administrators or professors are available and responsive on a corporate 3rd-party advertising site is a major mistake.

@johannab@cosocial.ca @babetteknauer@mastodon.social @Bibliothecaris@social.edu.nl Found out today using Instagram is part of my kid's grade 11 apprenticeship. Teacher was scolding the class today for not posting enough of their work.
