@bragefuglseth@sunny.garden I think it's possible that I accidentally purged it in my post-installation-debloating spree after installing Trixie, because Debian insists on including some weird stuff.
What remains odd is that this *only* affected GNOME 49/50 Flatpaks. Distro packages never broke.

@vtrlx@mastodon.social Thanks, I think this is the final piece of missing info I needed. Until very recently, GTK would handle compose sequences and dead keys internally if necessary. But since 4.19.2, it expects the compositor to handle this instead (i.e. you need to have ibus installed).
