what do you think is the ground for the traction motors running on said 25kV? Hint: it weighs about 54kg per meter.

@PalmAndNeedle@norden.social @Aurora_Bee@deadinsi.de Yes, hence thee need to insulate the points. Ground level traction power does exist, third rails. In fact, the London Tube employs a dedicated, insulated fourth ground rail because the traditional method of using the running rails for grounding caused galvanic corrosion between iron tunnel ring segments and the surrounding earth greatly shortening their lifespans.
