Question for fedi art nerds: if i wanted to spend around $400 on a graphics tablet for casual use under linux (fedora/gnome/wayland, unless I really really really had to change, and even then it would be a vm), what are the good options? Other considerations: this will be mostly couch use, portable is better, 14-16&quot; is probably the right size, and I&#39;ve gotten accustomed to hardware that just works

In the past I've done a little bit of this on a surface pro 7, but it's not a great experience. I put a paper texture screen protector on, and that just made it tolerable

You mention "casual use under linux (fedora/gnome/wayland)"... can you by any chance point me details about the OS you plan to use? I've been assuming I'd use https://www.ubuntu-touch.io/ for something like this, but sounds like you are thinking of using something different?

@jenniferplusplus@hachyderm.io I dunno if this fits the bill but we got a Ugee M708 tablet recently for the kiddo, its not fancy but it worked out of the box on Bazzite/GNOME and the vendor setting app for customizing the hotkeys actually has a Linux RPM which also just worked. I was pleasantly surprised. It worked with Krita without any fuss.

@jenniferplusplus@hachyderm.io The Starlabs StarLite is way out of the price range and I sadly wouldn't recommend it for predominantly art use. It does work with minimal fuss, decent pen tracking and pressure sensitivity. It's not going to do anything for you that the Surface isn't already, and the pen is battery-powered and pretty bare bones I wouldn't have mentioned it except it's also the best option I was able to find for a Linux-forward art tablet. Fingers crossed you have better luck 🤞

@jenniferplusplus@hachyderm.io I've been using a huion kamvas 13 on my Linux Mint running Microsoft laptop. At least, untill last week when I dropped something heavy on it and shattered the screen. 😭 I ordered a second hand replacement for the tablet for 50 euros. Comes without a stylus but I still have that one so I assume it won't be a problem. Prices for complete sets seem to range between 100 and 150 euros. Screen doesn't have as much range as the laptop, but overall I was very happy with it.
