@scarlet@plush.city being an immigrant does imply more paperwork, but at least you don't have to deal with American paperwork, which I realized is much more horrifying after helping someone with it.

I've read folks stories about how paperwork in other countries can be overwhelming, but I've recently gone through several processes over here that involved over a hundred different files, in total. It's overwhelming and the information is often contradictory. I feel like the American reputation for "efficiency" is actually more marketing than anything else - the reality does not match the way this place is advertised.
