@kmherkes@wandering.shop I think you're not alone in disliking ghoti. I've seen a few comments to that effect today 😆 I was surprised to see how far back its use goes, though. I find it a fun word, but judging by reactions, it seems like it must come up a lot in irritating contexts or something.

    @saposcat@indieauthors.social I'm fine with ghoti being an early and badly designed example of "Fun With Phonics" from a time before stnadardized spelling was even a thing. As that, it's amusing. Unfortunately that isn't how it gets tossed around online. Too many people have adopted it as their favorite "proof" example of English being flawed/ broken/ridiculous when it proves nothing of the sort. (The same kind of substitution wordplay can be done in many alphabet-based written languages.) So that annoys me.
