@laund@wetdry.world @tragivictoria@mastodon.catgirl.cloud Have you missed all of the talks about race conditions for file handling and the recent security vulnerabilities because of that? Like the coreutils had a lot of hard learned lessons in that regard and - well - the developers of the rust version are currently re-learning the same lessons. To be fair they probably were poorly to not at all documented. But I also doubt anyone would have read it if it existed...

I do think you're underestimating the usefulness of documentation (or even tests) for this sort of thing, and especially the utter lack of any, across basically the whole software development field. Sure, nobody would have read that, because nobody would be used to something like documentation about bugs a project has fixed even existing in any form but a commit history
