And Inside Macintosh Vol. 1, which was the current Dialog Manager reference at this point, provided the example shown below. IIRC the convention to place the default button in the lower right corner happened in the '90s, post-System 7.

    @_the_cloud@mastodon.social @drdrang@fosstodon.org @mjtsai@mastodon.social @bgeerdes@mastodon.cloud 1984 and 1985 were a little Wild West, but the HIG and the idioms had largely settled in by 1986-87, as @nriley@mstdn.social's 1987 HIG examples show. Your example here from Inside Mac Vol. 1 is so early that the Chicago font isn't even right. Look at those lowercase a's. And "CAUTION" in all caps? It's kind of crazy.
