@TimWardCam@c.im not saying this is not an effective strategy, but I gave up on Stack Overflow a while ago. The good answers are rarely at the top nowadays. Takes some experience to know what to look for. Instead, I read through the entire documentation of the main tools (languages, frameworks) I use. It takes a surprisingly short amount of time and I don't have to do it in one sitting. Couple hours of time well invested after which I feel much more confident and don't have to rely on a thrid party.

@mre@mastodon.social I'm currently in a team that looks after all the stuff that nobody else specialises in. If I spent a couple of hours on the documentation for each application, framework, library ... ... ... Plus results vary with the quality of documentation. The other day I spent that sort of time reading up on Prometheus, and found the answer to what I wanted to do, and it basically worked first time. I spent a similar amount of time reading up on nginx and, as usual, didn't understand a word of it, and ended up guessing at random until something worked.
