( · extremely weird codec specifications · tons of scary ffmpeg incantations · special different encoding necessary for Safari only, which doesn’t support transparent WebM · while creating works, I can’t get transcoding to work · weird non-transparent pixel row that I cannot get rid of except *cropping while showing* · not to mention how hard it is to *produce* transparent video to begin with )

If you are interested, here’s an example of my results: https://unsung.aresluna.org/if-a-feature-falls-in-a-forest/ It’s not a very *obvious* transparency, but for both the videos you can toggle between dark and light mode and the frames and shadows are going to react really nicely.

  • @mwichary@mastodon.online do you mind sharing your codec settings / ffmpeg incantations? My browser (webm) experiment “works” including semi-transparency but there’s some kind of bug with edge pixels
