@Ricardus@mastodon.sdf.org I have the extension thing with the smaller hand-wand, I forget what it is called. I often put it in a vice and then use both of my hands with the rock I am carving. It feels more stable to me and there is the bonus of getting my fingers closer to the spinning blade.
I was thinking electrical tape over the aluminium to protect it. I just assumed you had steady hands to do all that soldering. 😅

@sikkdays@ourempty.pub I do have pretty steady hands for soldering but occasionally I'm shaky. On those days I can't solder the small stuff. I'm not sure tape would be enough to protect the cool aluminum enclosure. A milling machine would be ideal. Or even a drill press where I could lock a grinding wheel at a certain height and gently push the pot into the wheel to grind away the nubby.
