I have sort of a "civil disobedience" reasoning about plastic soil covers -- you don't need it unless you need it enough to use it uncovered. Which will remind you to remove it as soon as possible and plant something you want into the bare soil! But oh my gosh, people refusing to understand that weed seeds will grow in anything they use as mulch, there will be no "no weeding" outdoors space... this is why to take up gardening, have something to aim for not just attack. @trachelipus@masto.ai

    @clew@ecoevo.social I am extremely grumpy about my plastic encrusted mulch patch right now. Weeds, including a single poison ivy vine, grew on top of it. I pulled the vine, thinking I was taking enough precautions (gloves, washed right after.) I now have rashes that look like chemical burns, my arms are wrapped in gauze because the blisters are weeping, and I'm loopy from Benadryl.
