@beep@follow.ethanmarcotte.com Oh, that's interesting. Hadn't occurred to me that this can also be a pre-emptive measure. Usually when I hear these stories, the back story is "we asked for X and management said no", but it makes sense that you'd unionize under good management, knowing how quickly situations can change.

@beep@follow.ethanmarcotte.com @csilverman@mastodon.social Yeah, unions should exist even when there’s nothing bad. It’s a way to present a voice and shape the direction as a collective. Usually people don’t bother to unless there’s something to negotiate about, but it doesn’t necessarily mean something’s bad, and it’d be good to try to break that association, as it’s kinda an anti-union meme, tbh. (Like “you don’t need a union unless your work sucks” suppresses union membership and makes people feel it’s “not for them.”)
