@GamesMissed@mastodon.social maximum 3D all the time! I must've missed that at the time as I didn't have much idea that the new XL was such an improvement

@Hundstrasse@retro.pizza With the New 3DS, an infrared LED is set into the top bezel next to the camera. It shines on your face if you have 3D switched on, and the camera tracks the infrared reflections from your eyes. The system uses that to determine your eyes' positions, and can make adjustments to the screen to compensate for head movement. It updates very quickly, so you can tilt your head or the 3DS and it won't interrupt the 3D effect at all.
