Another #Autism realization: I don’t shift my internal narrative to match others’ as easily as I’ve seen most allistic people do. This seems to strengthen my concept that autism is at least partially described by a reduced drive for #social cohesion. I just don’t seem to care as much about doing what everyone else is doing as what I see in allistic people.

Now I have a partial answer for why #communication is difficult for me sometimes: I don’t shift my #narrative of what I have said to match what my fellow interlocutor(s) understood to be my meaning. I simply acknowledge the lack of understanding and try again, possibly with different words and at a different tone and/or volume. That leads to “your story has changed” or “you’re yelling at me” - effectively hearing a social meaning I didn’t intend.

@deriamis@mstdn.social I can't remember where I read it, but I saw a model that described allistic communication priorities as social context > emotional context > information, whereas with autistics it's the other way around. Sounds consistent with what you are saying.
