Now I have a partial answer for why #communication is difficult for me sometimes: I don’t shift my #narrative of what I have said to match what my fellow interlocutor(s) understood to be my meaning. I simply acknowledge the lack of understanding and try again, possibly with different words and at a different tone and/or volume. That leads to “your story has changed” or “you’re yelling at me” - effectively hearing a social meaning I didn’t intend.

Furthermore, I tend not to speak until I’m reasonably sure I’m correct. That, in combination with not shifting my narrative, means I don’t “show my work” as my opinions change. That leads others to interpret me as arrogant or inflexible or unwilling to admit and accept mistakes. I’m no saint, of course, but I’d like to believe I am just as capable of making mistakes and then correcting them as anyone else.
