@ana@starlite.rodeo Actually, speaking of malls, I'm surprised these corpo nerds aren't buying out current, abandoned or demolished malls to make data centers instead of wasting resources to create new data centers.

@ana@starlite.rodeo And a roomful of people typing on manual typewriters could earn the name "NI Data Center" NI being Natural Intelligence...

@p4w@woof.tech 2026-05-15 05:04
@ana@starlite.rodeo actually calling them "slop factory" works too

@ana@starlite.rodeo in order to get the investments ($)

@seepr@toot.community 2026-05-15 05:28
@ana@starlite.rodeo who actually owns the data in the center? artists? #artist #art The term datacenter implies that the data is actually the most valuable part about it; a fitting observation imo.

@ana@starlite.rodeo bravo

@ana@starlite.rodeo Oh no I hate that. I mean it's perfect, but the way it fumbles off my tongue is just fucky. ...now that I think about it that's perfect for AI generated bs. Looks good, feels off and gross in a way I can't articulate.

@ana@starlite.rodeo oh bravo!

@ana@starlite.rodeo what would we call data centers in cruise ships?
-
@luc0x61@mastodon.gamedev.place 2026-05-15 11:27
@ana@starlite.rodeo Because you can enter a mall and peek at the rubbish, before you buy it. While with "AI" datacenters the slop is randomly mixed by some algorithm before it's sold as gold.

@ana@starlite.rodeo Future unemployment receptacles. Energy bill rockets. Yeah, I can come up with some better ones.

@reiddragon@fedi.catto.garden 2026-05-15 11:58
@ana@starlite.rodeo "datacenter" sounds high tech thus great for investors. Honesty tends to drive investors away (Uber didn't become a global taxi company by being honest about being taxis, they became a global taxi company by saying shit about personal limousines and calling it "ride sharing")
-
@Soozcat@vmst.io 2026-05-15 12:42
@ana@starlite.rodeo Then actual dead malls converted to data centers should be called "sloppy seconds"
-
@failedLyndonLaRouchite@mas.to 2026-05-15 13:03
@ana@starlite.rodeo because, contrary to what most people here think, AI is , and this is true, a very powerful tool that helps a lot of people get their work done
-
@dfx4509b@friendica.world 2026-05-15 13:44
@ana@starlite.rodeo How 'bout calling them, Destroyers of Worlds, bringing up Oppenheimer's famous quote?
-
@Eryel@chaosfem.tw 2026-05-15 15:00
@ana@starlite.rodeo because the naming came from people who think "AI" is the best thing since the coming of Jesus or something
-
@Doomed_Daniel@mastodon.gamedev.place 2026-05-15 15:16
@ana@starlite.rodeo dunno, "slopping mall" sounds kinda.. cozy? in a way?

@ana@starlite.rodeo Because that would've required some creative thinking, which they proved they have none of lol
-
@ahhhhhhoniichan@snug.moe 2026-05-15 17:01
@ana@starlite.rodeo they tore down a mall and plan on putting a data center there near me. So yeah, that definitely fits.

@ana@starlite.rodeo I think AI should be called soothsayers. They always say something. Most of it is just pattern with no specific knowledge. They are happy to take your money. And it would be funny to see people accepting that CEOs push for what their soothsayer tells them.
