i don't think any other technology has had that kind of native narrative around it and i think this has only compounded as it became easy to give kids things like cell phones and pawn off parenting onto youtube, etc and as kids started getting laptops and chromebooks in school

and i think another important aspect here is that computers are highly complex general purpose devices, whereas something like a phone or TV is extremely narrow in its uses and interface, so the learning burden is dramatically lower

@beka_valentine@kolektiva.social I did notice something similar in a couple Steinbeck novels, with the olds talking about the youngs as being inherently different in their relationship to cars, having grown up with them, while the olds will always find them a bit scary and alien. He doesn't use the term "automotive native", but he might as well have. But it's not like that turned out great either!
