i think computers specifically have a bit of a nuanced path to their current knowledge void tho
i think a few things happened simultaneously that created that problem. other things are probably connected to it broadly but computers specifically have a particular set of reasons

i think one issue is that the web exploded on the scene in the 90s and computers were very rapidly adopted. it was a sudden rapid shift that was hard to miss, and so there was a clear and pressing need for educational material in the minds of a lot of adults
