@andrewg@mastodon.ie I guess I don't engage with fedi as "a map of the real world" but as complimentary and enmeshed with it. I used to have a lot of connections on Twitter to python community buddies and some are also around here. I guess I endorse the fragmentation instead of fighting it? Twitter also never was a map of reality, and many friends of mine were not there. Loosing connections and even friends, or at least the intimacy once felt, happens over time, doesn't matter which medium...

@hpk@chaos.social I definitely don’t see any social media as an approximation of reality. But in the days when “everyone” was on the same one or two social networks, social media at least overlapped with reality to a significant extent. You are one of the vanishingly small number of people I know in both fedi and the physical world, and that’s because we share an *even smaller* subculture! 🤣 I wouldn’t give that up for all the money in the world. But I miss my other social circles…
