another old trick for cool scifi vibes is to use Frank Lloyd Wright's Ennis House. the tile work is iconic, and you can see the house used as Deckard's apartment in Blade Runner
or you could do what Babylon 5 did, and make glowing plastic tile recreations for columns!

a golden rule for making interesting sets is detail. consider this set from Babylon 5. its a hallway with an elevator and a second joining hallway to the left. it could just be a plain hallway with boring walls, but that would be, well boring
