Some alphabets have cool names for every letter. The Glagolitic script did. Its first letters were
Az (me)
Buki (letters)
Vedi (know)
...
For conscripts and conlangs, this is such an underexplored area of expression. Just imagine we're worldbuilding, and we're using this thing to express the values and the lifestyle of a people in their alphabet.
Why don't we do this anymore IRL? Phonetic names like Em and Ess are not fun. The funniest name in Latin alphabet is Y—it's called Greek I in some languages.

@bouncepaw@merveilles.town I remember designing an alphabet for elves in a world we designed with friends. I decided to assign every letter a set of meanings and a place in a values hierarchy. So every word has style, compound meaning, and multiple overlapping interpretations. I guess I knew about Ithkuil but not hieroglyphics back then 🤣 No, I don’t have any records of that. Lost to the sands of time.
