@flup@mastodon.scot I didn't take it as such - sorry if it sounded bad, but also have to say it's tricky to compare a system that costs a lot and which the design crew constantly want to change for change sake (like removing the "Start" button on one version of windows till the outcry got them to put it back, or deciding you will get feature ...., on by default - whether you want it on not) to something that folk provide for free.

It's the dilemma free alternatives face: naive users will expect things to work, and hearing things about outdated/non-free drivers, distros, and window managers just drives them away. Maybe part of this is that when I was young I was happy to calculate video timings by hand to put in the X config to make my monitor work... and now debugging display and audio problems just distracts me from my real work.

@flup@mastodon.scot But also I'd like to say about Libreoffice*: I miss the simple functionally of find and replace paragraph ending marks; as it's long been a thing I used in word when working with text and the fact that there is an extn you can add to get it back (after a faff and not simply) proves I'm not the only one that misses it! Talking free software #LibreOffice
