@richardtroupe@mastodon.ie Yeah, that's true. You can't replace one transistor, but you can program an FPGA to replace the whole chip. I vaguely recall there being a project to rebuild a Commodore 64 from modern parts, with FPGAs serving in place of most of the original chips. Commander X16, I think it was called?

@argv_minus_one@mastodon.sdf.org There's a modern C64 with an FPGA replacement called the C64 Ultimate. The Commander X16 was sort of a 'pseudo successor' from memory with enhanced capabilities and a different architecture.
