  Just tried to reboot my Pixel 6 into #Android 16, and…the #phone is stone-cold dead. Black screen, no response to buttons, power+volume doesn't work. This is not acceptable! When a PC operating system gets bricked, you can still boot into BIOS, enable booting from USB, and use a rescue/installer USB stick to repair or reinstall the OS. Can we please have #phones that are similarly fail-safe? Not this unreliable nonsense? Thanks. 😡

  I do enjoy doing fun #SQL tricks to clean up a database. 😌 Fun fact: if you have a newline-separated list of identifiers you need to use in a query, you can turn it into comma separated by piping it to `tr '\n' ','`. Then you can use it in a SQL IN clause. But beware that this only works if your list contains nothing but integers! Otherwise you need to wrap string quotes around the lines first, escape them, etc, lest you fall prey to SQL injection. #database #programming

  A #CRT isn't the only way to scan a phosphor screen with a particle beam! You could also use a laser. This avoids most of the problems with CRTs: * No heavy envelope or dangerous vacuum. Light isn't blocked by air. * No high voltage. Lasers don't need it. * No x-ray emissions. * Lasers use less power. Only thing is how do you deflect the beam?   I see social media age verification is being justified using phony “science” about young people's supposedly-underdeveloped brains being uniquely vulnerable to addiction. This is a myth. There is no such thing as a fully-developed brain. Adults are every bit as vulnerable. If they weren't, there wouldn't be a monstrously profitable underground market for gambling and narcotics.
