The closet thing I've ever been able to find to the Nishiki Olympic Royale is the SOMA Fabrications Buena Vista. More companies should be making more bicycles like this. The Buena Vista unfortunately can't fit a wider tire than 700c x 28 mm with fenders. Give me this, but with 50 mm tires and full fenders, make it strong enough for a Bafang BBS02 motor kit. I want a mixte, because I mainly wear dresses/skirts, and I have a bad knee. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XltKnGFQ5pQ

Tthat's another thing about the bicycle industry—it mainly caters to (younger, able) men who treat cycling as a hobby or a competition. To the extent that the industry considers women, at all, it assumes that women in the modern day have the option to wear trousers, so the industry doesn't feel much like it needs to offer high quality bicycles designed to accommodate women's traditional dress. Most "women's" bicycles are bicycle-shaped garbage (and not built for 185 cm tall women).

  • @gcvsa@mstdn.plus Nice thread. A nice alternative to the Soma is the Velo Orange Polyvalent Lowkicker. Looks like they're out of stock, but they go up to an XL and look absolutely lovely. Tho I just noticed it's 650b... but takes nice fat tyrees. https://velo-orange.com/collections/frames-1/products/polyvalent-mk5-1
