I looked at my grocery receipt as I was throwing it out and there was only one taxable thing - plain tortilla chips made from 100% corn and oil absorbed during cooking. I wondered why they are taxable when most other crackers are not. It turns out that CRA has some pretty crazy rules. The thing that mostly seems to make them taxable is that they are made from corn. Corn and potato foods are taxed because they are snacks. Make your cracker from wheat or other flours and it is tax free - even if flavoured. Note that I am not a CRA tax expert. https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/forms-publications/publications/4-3/basic-groceries.html#_Toc155586113

@human3500@ottawa.place the shapes, key words, and packaging details almost seem to be daring us to come up with a tasty tax-exempt snack food that doesn't fit their examples.
