Never berate your past self. Do not have regrets that you “could have done better”. That is wrong, factually. Be kind to yourself. Your past self *has always* made the best choices they could with the knowledge and circumstances they had at the time. No one is ever choosing to make a second best option. Everyone is choosing to do what makes most sense right at that moment. Never berate your past self for not being in better circumstances. Which is the ONLY way they might have done better.

    @mattwilcox@mstdn.social I agree, but I have also fully struggled with this all my life. All the regrets I chalked up to my own personal failures, laziness, lack of diligence, carelessness - were always hard to forgive myself for. And every time I did it again meant more self-flagellation. Why do I never learn, etc. Getting diagnosed with ADHD earlier this year has finally brought me some inner peace. It's not an excuse. But gives me some compassion for my past self, given what I've had to push through.
