@amirbkhan@mastodon.social what's ironic is that the right model is used both by literal nazis *and* by zionists. Hate minds think alike I guess.

@amirbkhan@mastodon.social There is a case to be made that State Zionism was/remains significantly a Christian project https://graceannhansen.medium.com/three-questions-about-zionism-58428aae1c66

@amirbkhan@mastodon.social The majority of Zionists are neither Jews nor Israelis. They are American Christian Evangelicals, and they vote as a bloc, not just about Zionism, either.

@amirbkhan@mastodon.social Also that different people mean different things by "Zionist".

@amirbkhan@mastodon.social I appreciate this, but I admit being a little confused. I had assumed on needed to be Jewish to be a Zionist. I looked up the definition of Zionist and realized it is anyone supporting the creation and defense of a Jewish State. But does that mean that those who persecuted Jews but pushed for the creation of Israel were Zionists?

@amirbkhan@mastodon.social Herzlโs Diary, 12 June 1895 > The property owners will come over to our side. According to my conception, the majority of the local population will have to be transferred elsewhere. > We shall try to spirit the penniless population across the border by procuring employment for it in the transit countries, while denying it any employment in our own country. > Both the process of expropriation and the removal of the poor must be carried out discreetly and circumspectly

@amirbkhan@mastodon.social and one should always remember that most Christian Zionists are nihilists - wanting to bring on the end of the world, rather than helping Zionist Jews enter into the joy of their glorious Davidic Kingdom.

@amirbkhan@mastodon.social Zionism, defined as support for an independent democratic Jewish state, has solid majority support amoung Jews in the US and elsewhere. But then it gets a little complicated. This because far-right Israeli govt's have broadened the meaning of "zionism" to *include* support for their far-right brand of Israeli governance. So, today "zionism" is considered to include "Netanyahu-ism", too. As a result many Jews have recast their views on "zionism". https://forward.com/fast-forward/803146/jews-who-support-israel-often-do-not-identify-as-zionists-new-jfna-survey-finds/

@amirbkhan@mastodon.social Interesting. I knew that not all Jews were Zionists, but I didn't realize that not all Zionists are Jewish.
